Music Club at Exeter Cathedral

Our wonderful Music Club was invited to sing as part of the Devon Music Education Hub's first ever day of ‘Celebration of Singing Excellence’, with just 7 other schools from acrossDevon: 4 primary schools and 4 secondary schools, with about 150 children in all.   The day involved a series of workshops working with 6 songs which we had previously learned and which covered a wide range of music genres:  folk, gospel and sacred music.  The day began in the Exeter Corn Exchange and culminated in 2 concerts in Exeter Cathedral: an informal concert in the afternoon in which each school showcased a song of their choice, together with the songs from the workshops. We sang 'Brand New Day', which the children accompanied themselves on handchimes.   At the evening concert we performed with the Military Wives Choir, Devon County Junior Choir, Schola Exe, Devon Teachers Rock Choir and Roots A Cappella to a packed and very appreciative audience.  It was a very long day for the 21 children, but they had a brilliant day and were a pleasure to work with and should all feel very proud of their amazing achievements.  Special mention needs to be made of Eddie Smout-Cooper (Y6) who sang a stunning solo at the start of the finale song: 'Sing' by Gary Barlow.
